Congratulations to All 2018 Runners
HUGE Thanks to All Volunteers!!!
Join us next year in beautiful Anza Borrego Desert State Park on March 9, 2019
50K, Marathon & Half Marathon!
7:00 a.m. 50K & Marathon Start
7:30 a.m. Half Marathon Start
The desert in spring displays its scenic wonders at their finest, and brings the most comfortable weather for running, camping, and other fun activities which are planned for you, your friends, and your family. All courses lead you through Anza Borrego Desert’s most diverse and pristine lands. Temperatures range from the low 40's overnight, to daytime highs in the low 70's. The nearby heights of the Laguna and Cuyamaca mountains often stop spring rains from reaching the sheltered basin of our event. Mountain rain makes desert rainbows!
Your adventure includes sharing ancient trails with the ghosts of the Kumeyaay People, this region's earliest known residents. Travelers and adventurers of yesteryear also included: Spanish colonials, explorers & settlers from Mexico, Kearney's Army of the West (guided by the legendary old west scout, Kit Carson), and the Mormon Battalion. During the famous gold rush era, prospectors and settlers often chose this southern overland route to reach California and its fortunes! Many came via the Birch or Butterfield Stage lines, from St. Louis via Santa Fe, and El Paso! "Catch the Spirit", come run in their tracks and enjoy the lands which gave them all renewed hope and shelter.
Old West Trails Fest courses are welcoming and runner friendly. Many Old West runners achieve new personal records. Throughout the entire 50K course, runners will experience only 2500 feet of gain & loss! The 1/2 Marathon course is considerably less “daunting”, with only 670 feet of elevation gain & loss. Generous time allowances are provided to encourage runners who are new to trails, and older geezers to come on down and join the fun! All participants will receive a tech t-shirt. Medals to all finishers.
Old West Trails event is brought to you by Pinnacle Endurance. We pledge a fun, exciting, and memorable experience for every runner! Our other races include the PCT 50 Mile Run, The Peak Marathon & Half Marathon, and the Oriflamme 50K.
Run both Old West Trails 50K, Marathon and/or Half Marathon and Oriflamme 50K in 2019 and earn the "Desert Duo" inter-locking medals set!
Bring the entire family!

Some of the proceeds from the race will go to the Shelter Valley Citizens' Corporation, which provides many free public services to local residents. This organization is made up of civic minded folks who devote much time to maintaining children's programs, senior activities, food assistance programs, a Red Cross approved emergency center, and countless other activities to assist others when the "chips are down". Shelter Valley Citizens' Corporation is an IRS approved 501C3, non-profit. Your support and donations are greatly appreciated. We look forward to you & your family & friends being our honored guest!
Old West Trails Fest will receive its event permit approval from Anza Borrego Desert State Park! Our local supervising ranger continues to be enthusiastic and supportive of our offering to each of you. Click here for STATE PARK RULES. United States Track and Field has sanctioned our event and will be satisfying state park's requirement for indemnification. State park fees are paid by Old West!
